Largest-ever Universiade to be held in Korea [2015/07/16 10:24]

The South Korean city of Gwangju has been given the honor of hosting this years Summer Universiade. Event planners and organizers are *speculating that it will be the largest tournament in the institution’s history.

As of now the committee has *registered more than 12,737 athletes and officials from 145 nations, *exceeding the 2013 event in Kazan, Russia, which drew 11,759 *participants.

The Universiade is a multisport competition for university athletes with *exceptional talent. The competitions began on July 3.

South Korea will have its largest team ever at the games, with 516 athletes and administrators in all 21 sports. The Asian nation is hoping to win at least 25 gold medals in order to rank among the top three in the *medal standings.
