Korea beats Laos 8-0 in football qualifier [2015/09/17 10:10]

Korea beat Laos 8-0 in an Asian World Cup *qualifier held on Sept. 3 at Hwaseong Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min scored a *hat trick while midfielder Kwon Chang-hoon scored two goals. Lee Chung-yong, Suk Hyun-jun and Lee Jae-sung scored a goal *apiece to *contribute to the grand victory.

With the win, the Korean head coach Uli Stielike notched up his 13th victory. He also has three *losses and three *draws. The win against Laos was the largest victory in Stielike’s 19 matches as head coach.

Korea *improved its record against Laos to 4 to 0, in which Korea has *given up no goals to the Southeast Asian team.

Korea’s first goal was earned by Lee Chung-yong in the ninth minute. Lee took a *cross from left fullback Hong Chul and found the net.

Korea, ranked 57th in the FIFA world rankings, *dominated its 174th-ranked *opponent throughout the game. Laos *barely touched the ball.

Korea has won two Asian qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia -- including the game against Myanmar in June.
