Son Heung-min moves to Tottenham [2015/09/09 11:22]

Korean soccer star Son Heung-min signed with English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur on Aug. 28.

The 23-year-old *forward used to play for German club Bayer Leverkusen, and Son’s *transfer fee is reported to be *around 30 million euros --equal to 40 *billion won.

With the contract, Son became the 13th South Korean to play in England’s top national football league. The contract will end in 2020.

He is also the third Korean to play in the English Premier League this season, following Crystal Palace’s Lee Chung-yong and Swansea City’s Ki Sung-yeung.

The nations’ 2002 World Cup star Lee Young-pyo played for Tottenham Hotspur from 2005 to 2008 as the left back.

Son said on Tottenham’s Twitter page that he was *looking forward to playing for the team as soon as possible.

He added that the support he gets from the fans *motivates him more and more.

Son *joined Hamburger SV’s youth academy at 16 and made his Bundesliga debut during the 2010-2011 season, according to Yonhap news agency.

He scored 11 goals in 30 league matches last season, including one goal in two league cup games and five in 10 UEFA Champions League appearances, Yonhap added.
