Massive cats enjoying strong popularity [2015/12/18 09:42]

Maine Coons are among the largest domesticated breeds of cats. They have a distinctive physical appearance and valuable hunting skills.

Fully grown, Maine Coons usually weigh between 5.4 kilograms to 8.2 kilograms. They make humans holding them look tiny by comparison.

The record-holder for the longest cat was once a Maine Coon, named Stewie, who measured in at more than 120cm from his nose to the tip of his tail.

Maine Coons are also known for their silky flowing coat and long, bushy tails -- suitable for cold winter climates.

Main Coons, one of the oldest breeds in North America, are believed to have originated from New England.

The state of Maine even named the breed as the “state cat” in 1985.

Main Coons are described as being very affectionate and having clown-like personalities. They are so sociable that they are nicknamed “the gentle giant.” This might help explain why they seem so willing to pose in photos with humans.

They are also said to be intelligent and playful. Some people describe their Maine Coons having “dog-like” characteristics.

Today, Maine Coons are the third most popular cat breed in the world.
